I went for a hike/jog at Song Bird Trail, Marquette Michigan on Saturday March 13, 2010. The snowpack was holding on the paths but many patches of ground showed even under the pines. The day was cold, damp, and misty. Could it be that spring has sprung here in the Upper Peninsula?

I went on a recovery walk today. Not my usual 10k run. Why? I have been afflicted with some sort of intestinal distress with pain over my gall bladder. It will be after the holidays before I know what is up. So for now I watch my food and my activity. I rest. I walk. I capture images. Not too different from a usual day (wink).
Healthy Buck

Went hunting with my camera and found this healthy, and very fat, eight point buck. The winter is early but Naturalists and the DNR are predicting a hard winter and a significant impact to the Upper Peninsula Deer herd. It is a good thing the trees were heavy with apples this year. It certainly helped fatten the herd.
Migraine @ Sunset

Taken on Presque Ilse at sunset. Normally a migraine would have sent me to a dark room for relief. But today I was drawn by light, the angle, the tone and hue.

I started a Minus 0 set at Flickr in honor of our first cold day of December. I took this photo while travelling between schools. I was the orchestra teacher at the Middle School and High School today. I quickly drove to the lake shore took less than 2 dozen shots. I have played with the post processing of these shots tonight. Check out the whole set if you like–as the nite goes on more may make it up.

I feel like I cannot catch up, cannot accomplish all that I need to do, learn the things I need to learn….One thing I could do is work at night.

Getting off work at 4p.m. on a sunny Saturday evening was a blessing. I headed home grabbed my camera and Mike, too. He had been out on the island 4 hours that day, already. He had also been out on Friday at sunset while I was working. But it was my turn this time, and he obliged in being my camera buddy as we headed out to the ice. I love the support of my Magic Man, please visit Mike Hainstock’s Flickr page as he is very talented.
Sleet, Running, Daughter and Grandson

Today I woke early and had a single packet of oatmeal and only 1/2 a cup of coffee as I rearranged my schedule a wee bit to go on a run! I picked up my daughter and headed to the YMCA shortly before the weather arrived. We each ran a mile on the treadmill.
I have never ran a mile with my daughter. In fact, until a week or so ago, I could not run a mile. I have exercise induced asthma and used to get awful shin-splints. But I have dropped 22.5 pounds since November. I have been more active this winter. And I joined the “Y.”
Ceiri and I started the day right! Went home to the arms of her son, my grandson and had coffee. We picked careful steps to the car, though. The rain and sleet had arrived. The day felt “spring-like” but as Yoopers we know not to count on spring in February. Traditionally the last worst storm is our St. Patrick’s Day storm.
I had many errands to run today. But the time I was done visiting at my daughter’s hugging Liam before his nap, the roads were full of accidents and police officers guiding traffic around them. I chose to head home.
I am looking forward to runs outdoors! I am looking forward to green. Leaf green. Grass Green. Shammrock Green!

I spent most of February chasing blue ice and here we find green. Located just off the bike path in the Founder’s Landing area. I often walk here in the warmer months. I rarely walk here in the winter.
Here I am taking a pseudo aerial shot. I am standing above the recreation building that houses a indoor picnic area and bathroom facilities. In the warm months there are picnic tables on top, a solid rail around the upper deck of this structure adds safety. Perfect handicap access to views of Lake Superior. I do home health work as my day job and I often park here, unload a stroller-type wheel chair and go for a spin on bike path, then eat lunch at a picnic table. The bathroom facilities are perrrrfectttt for wheelchair and two person use. Great Design! If you have a young family many people wade the waters here.
There is a creek that once was trapped underground. The watershed here has been restored and is nicely landscaped to prevent erosion. I do not know the creek’s name–please share if you do. The creek comes out on one-side of Gaine’s Rock. When revving up my fitness walk I go off bike path and over Gaine’s Rock and hop the creek. Be careful though, Gaine’s Rock is covered with posion ivy.
Happy Valentine’s Day

This morning is blue-grey as I wait for the sun to rise. The brightest splash of color in the backyard is the stained wood on the birdfeeders. It feels cold after the relatively warm temps of February’s Thaw. The return to winter always seems cruel but I know it will snow for at least two more months. The Seasonal Disorder has settled back in deeply. It tries to dissuade me from projects and crash dreams. I am fighting back.
This morning I head to work for a short shift then I am off until Monday at noon. Yeah! I promise some photos and a good long story, an inspration or two and maybe surprise. Now you may have to check both here and at The Dailies to see all I have in store. Until then candy kisses and cupid dreams to you!
