What is sometimes hidden can include your “hope” in winter. My hope (renewed) came in the form of a borrowed car and pulling into the driveway (at home) from the opposite direction. I caught sight of the backyard bird feeders, and a nest hidden among the thick lilacs. These sights pulled me into the cold yard as the snows began, another winter storm in January about to begin, and the birds were in a concentrated eating frenzy. Gettin’ while the gettin’ was good.

My car will not be ready until the machined heads come back and the the work gets buttoned up sometime Wednesday eve–if you can maintain that hope. Things get old, they get rusty, deteriorate. Even those blue balls in the yard that fade. I may leave the decorations up all winter. The snow is getting deep. I like the lights on sometimes. The smooth balls have faded from blue to purple to pink and now? But the textured blue balls are still a nice royal. Where am I headed with all this?

Somewhere past the snow and gray, the drifts and piles. I am getting older, mid-life. I am holding up better than the “no longer blue balls.” I am finding new directions with borrowed cars. I am turning toward…?

My Birthday is Janaury 18, 2009. I hope I will not start to fade.
